Be gentle with yourself, you’re doing the best you can.
We seem to hold ourselves to a higher standard than we do others; big goals, lofty expectations, and dreams of success drive us to do our best. When feeling overwhelmed, overworked, stressed, tired or worn out we often push ourselves harder to snap out of it, get moving, or suck it up.
Giving yourself grace is about giving yourself freedom and understanding. Understanding that life is hard and things aren’t always going to be perfect. Understanding that we need to make mistakes to grow.
Talk to yourself like you would a dear friend or family member. Would you tell them the same thing? If not, take a step back and take a deep breath.
There are several ways you can help yourself...give yourself grace:
- Set small goal to achieve on a weekly basis
- Ask for help
- Choose one task over another
- Decide what your non-negotiables are
- Brainstorm ways to make things easier for yourself
Sometimes, it just means taking a break from the daily grind. Unplug, disconnect from the world around you. Take time to check in with yourself and see what needs attention. Remember, you are doing the best that you can and that’s all anyone can ask of you (and all that you can ask of yourself).
